Life Centre Opens

Five years of work was completed this year, with The Street City Church moving into their new offices on the first floor of 21 Hania Street, Wellington. This important heritage building dates from 1942. Designed by Edmund Anscombe, its original purpose was the Disabled Servicemen’s Vocational Training Centre.

The Street City Church purchased the building with a long-term view to much-needed space. That vision has been realised in stages:

  • Removal of outbuildings and development of a carpark forecourt (designed by Wright & Associates, landscape architects)
  • Replacing over 1200m2 of roof
  • Earthquake strengthening to 100% of New Building Standard
  • Fitout of ground floor for Capital & Coast District Health Board Specialty Services
  • Fitout of the first floor for The Street City Church

We have highly valued working with a client with the vision and commitment to see this long and challenging project to completion. This building was in a fragile and neglected state, and The Street City Church have done a great service to the city of Wellington by sensitively restoring it and allowing it to be seen again from the street.
