Kimberley Centre in Levin provides residential services for people with an intellectual disability. More than 370 Kimberley residents were relocated to community living. The relocations aimed to provide them with improved residential services in a community setting.
Shown here are two new houses that were situated on a site of three. The design focused on the needs of the individuals, and the choices made required intensive design and consultation.
As the residents spend the majority of their time at their houses, the design needed to provide usable outdoor spaces, feel open and accessible while still providing for the safety of the residents and caregivers.
